Karlovy Vary - The Name Given by the King

Local legends say that the Karlovy Vary hot springs of today were discovered by King Charles IV’s entourage while hunting in the nearby woods. Supposedly, one of the hunting dogs plunged into a pool of hot water and the hunters were alerted to the unusually hot temperature of the spring by its frantic yelping. The spring now bears the name of the Czech king because he purportedly used it to cure his aching limbs. The Charles’ Spring is located in the Market Colonnade and its temperatures can reach 64 degrees Centigrade, making it the second warmest spring of the spa.
